Some of my early childhood memories either involves playing baseball , goofing off and eating. Sure, my palate wasn’t as developed yet. Being from a Caribbean household, I wasn’t really eating that bland ish my friends were eating. But theres was days I was like A regular kid. Saturday cartoons was always accomponied with a bowl of Apple Jacks or Lucky Charms. Afternoon set up, was episodes of Flintstones and Brady Bunch with PBJ and the good ol’ Grilled Cheese. Nothing American like an oozy gooey grilled cheese sandwich and a cold glass of milk.
This weekend, Timeout New York is presenting the Grilled Cheese Meltdown at City Winery. There will be two sessions offering some of the best dressed up queso sandwiches paired with some brewskis. My prediction is the restaurant that uses government cheese will reign supreme .
Kudos!!!! To the Taste Talks Booklyn Expo. Had an exceptional time as always. Of course one of the highlights was the All Star BBQ. The great thing about this event is the mash up of chefs, artists and personalities. Check out some of the goodness. Pinky
The most important food tasting in New York City is an event that benefits Share. Share Cancer Support mission is to create and sustain a supportive network and community of women affected by breast and ovarian cancer. SHARE Cancer Support brings these women and their families and friends together with others who have experienced breast or ovarian cancer, and provides participants with the opportunity to receive and exchange information, support, strength , hope and awareness. SHARE currently serves 40,000 people annually with free supportive and educational services in English and Spanish, provided by people who’ve faced these diseases.
On September 19th , we will be celebrating 40 strong years of dedicated support that Share has been offering.
The event is called A Second Helping of Life. This will be its 13th installment of this meaningful gathering. When it comes to food, the room will be filled with some of the best chefs from New York. Did I forget to mention the lineup consist of an all star female lineup. Angie Mar from the Beatrice Inn will play the role as Executive Chef. Rounding out this fabulous dream team includes Leah Cohen (Pig&Khao), Alex Guarnaschelli (Butter) and Missy Robbins(Lilia) to name a few.
The event will be taking place at Pier 60 Chelsea Piers
In my book, one of the most solid neighborhoods in the food and drink scene is Williamsburg. So many dope spots opened up this year alone, joining some old classics. Stop all that noise, good ol’ Billy Burg is still the place to hang especially is your questing for food. Can’t hit every restaurant so I suggest you go to the Taste of Williamsburg/Greenpoint for a foodgasm .

Pig Island is a do not miss event. When ever Jimmy and the Food Karma put together event, do me a favor and scoop up tickets. All through the year, the team throws all different themed events. This one can be the Granddaddy of all of them. Pig Island will be taking place in Red Hook Brooklyn at Erie Basin Park, next to Ikea. Soak in the sun, have a few cold ones at some pork from some of the finest pit masters and chefs.

In its 21st year, Union Square will have a sweet aroma of some of the best the city offers. Expect a diverse lineup under the New York skyline. Always a fun and festive event. Some of my personal highlights include , artisanal flavors of Black Barn, the freshness of the The Poke Shop and everyones favorite Hill Country Chicken.

Back in 2012, I was able to attend an one of a kind event in the historical Prospect Park. It was like a Centaur of events, part music festival, part seminar and part food experience. Throw in some nice sunshine and you have a fine beautiful mess . The Great GoogaMooga was a delightful shindig but then again I had all access. After a two year run, some haters put a stop to the great one.
Forward to now, the same team behind Googa has crafted up a new spectacular. Superfly is bringing us a new spirit driven event called Cocktail Magic. Looks like its going to be sweet. The lineup includes some of my favorites Julie Reiner and Ivy Mix, so it should be one for the ages. Besides cocktails and magic is an awesome combo.
You know Pinkyfingerup will always support an event that helps the community. If you enjoy Latin Food, the Slice of Latin America is the place to taste some spicy hot goodness. The event takes place at the spacious Capitale on Bowery. You can expect great food, music, dancing and a solid live auction.
Village Voice is a long standing o.g in New York culture. As a youngster hanging downtown, I would always kill time by looking at the weekly publication. When the Village Voice changed their format and made the paper into a free weekly thats when I appreciated it more. It was always my go to, to see which music artist were in town. Indeed , I would check the tits and ass in the back pages and I’m sure I applied to test some shit for 2500. These days I don’t get to grab the newspaper as much as I used to but I try to go to their events. In March, Village Voice will be celebrating their 9th annual Choice Eats. The awesome thing about this event , the food represents all walks of life. It’s a must go to event. Straight New York talk.
